Singer and former James Bond girl Grace Jones will perform at an exclusive Safari meets the Sea party at The Elandra, the newly named Horizon resort at Mission Beach. Situated on a site overlooking Dunk and Bedarra Island and is conveniently located at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef in Mission Beach; nestled in rainforest above the ocean at South Mission Beach, the resort has undergone an $18 million revamp.

The reopening has enticed a bevy of actors, fashion designers and socialites to Mission Beach. Actors Alex Dimitriades and Melissa George, TV personality Sonia Kruger, fashion designers Peter Morrissey and Bettina Liano and Melbourne socialite Lillian Frank are expected to be among the guests. Others who had been invited, but won’t be attending included Virgin Group boss Richard Branson, former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins and music guru Ian Molly Meldrum.

Jones, who will sing at the party, has requested a 24-hour-a-day limousine at the top of her list of needs. Elandra director and former Broadway performer Katrina Knowles said Jones and a DJ from Bali would be flown in for the poolside cocktail party, which would also include fire twirling and safari dancers. A spokeswoman said Jones would enjoy a week in the Far North. While she has a limousine at her disposal, for the duration of her stay, she is not scheduled to do anything else but enjoy herself.

While Jones may certainly be lacking some of the qualities her name – grace - alludes to, her masculine appearance, height and manner has ensured she remains controversial. Like the time she exposed her breasts during a performance at the Walt Disney World theme park in Orlando, Florida. Indeed even before the F-bomb chef Gordon Ramsay scrambled his first omelette, gossip writers could count on outrageous performer Grace Jones to keep the censors busy.

Arguably the 60-year-old singer is in the twilight of her career; while her star quality may be waning, her insistence on having a limo on 24 hour standby shows old habits die hard. Stars know a limo is a necessity; even when all you have to do, in Jones’ case, is to enjoy yourself and relax!
